For diabetic nerve damage. For paraesthesia caused by diabetic nerve damage (polyneuropathy)
Alpha-Lipon AL 600 is used to treat sensory disturbances in diabetic nerve damage (polyneuropathy). The active ingredient thioctic acid contained in Alpha-Lipon AL 600 has antioxidant properties that can protect the nerve cell from reactive breakdown products.
* In the case of sensory disturbances caused by diabetic neuropathy, the combination of alpha-lipoic acid and benfotiamine can be useful. Here we recommend the additional intake of milgamma protekt.

For abnormal sensations in diabetic polyneuropathy
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in Germany. Diabetes affects more than 7 million people, over 90% of whom are type 2 diabetics. Despite intensive research, the disease caused by insulin resistance cannot be cured, but with a consistently healthy lifestyle and regular intake of medication, there are hardly any symptoms.
Elevated blood sugar levels damage the small and large blood vessels and pose an increased risk of secondary diseases such as diabetic polyneuropathy, which often manifests itself as tingling in the legs. Alpha lipoic acid has proven itself to improve the so-called "pins and needles" or reduced feeling in the limbs.
Proven active ingredient
Chronically elevated blood sugar often attacks the nerves - diabetic polyneuropathy is one of the most common complications in diabetics. The antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid, also known as thioctic acid, has been proven to relieve discomfort. The active substance can improve the blood supply to the nerves and the nerve conduction speed. As an antioxidant, alpha lipoic acid can scavenge free oxygen radicals in the diabetic nerve. It can also increase the levels of antioxidants present in the body, such as glutathione. This can also prevent nerve damage. Already after several weeks of oral intake, a clear reduction in neuropathic symptoms such as unpleasant tingling, numbness, burning and pain in the arms and legs was observed.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, adults take 1 film-coated tablet ALPHA-LIPON AL 600 unchewed daily with plenty of liquid about 30 minutes before the first meal of the day. For optimal absorption of the active ingredient into the bloodstream, it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach. For easier swallowing, the film-coated tablet can be divided into equal doses thanks to the score line on both sides.
Obesity and smoking
Obesity not only causes blood sugar levels to rise, but also poses an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. A change in eating habits and abstaining from nicotine and alcohol is significantly beneficial to health.
Healthy eating
Eating a balanced, wholesome diet can help keep blood sugar levels under control. Pay particular attention to hidden fats in ready meals, include plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole grain products in your daily diet and eat small portions.
Regular exercise
Physical exercise not only helps to reduce body weight, but also lowers blood pressure and blood sugar and prevents secondary diseases. There is no need for top athletic performance, instead regularity and perseverance pays off for health.
Frequently asked questions & answers
How long do I have to take Alpha-Lipon AL 600?
Basically, when taking preparations based on the active ingredient alpha-lipoic acid, it can take a few weeks before a noticeable relief of the symptoms occurs. Since diabetic nerve damage is a chronic disease, you may need to take the medicine continuously. Please discuss the duration of use and the daily dose with your doctor.
What should I do if I forgot to take a dose?
If you have forgotten to take Alpha-Lipon AL 600, do not take a double dose next time.
In general, when treating type 2 diabetes with tablets, it is important to take the medication regularly. Therapy prescribed by a doctor can only be successful if it is applied reliably and consistently.
What are typical signs of diabetes?
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder associated with elevated blood sugar levels. Therefore, the disease is often colloquially referred to as diabetes. When the blood sugar level reaches a certain level, sugar is excreted through the kidneys. This leads to the main symptoms of increased thirst and very frequent urination. In addition, the disease can manifest itself through tiredness, ravenous hunger, calf cramps and poorly healing wounds. If you suffer from the symptoms mentioned, you should have your blood sugar levels checked by your doctor as soon as possible.
The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
Type of application?
Take the medicine with liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).
Duration of use?
The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease. In principle, the duration of use is not limited in time, so the drug can be used for a longer period of time.
overdose?
An overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, seizures and severe blood clotting disorders. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.
group of people | single dose | total dose | time |
Adult | 1 tablet | 1 time per day | before the first meal (about 30 minutes) |
Forgot to take?
Continue taking it as normal (i.e. not double the amount) at the next prescribed time.
In general, pay attention to a conscientious dosage, especially for babies, small children and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.
A dosage prescribed by the doctor may deviate from the information on the package leaflet. Therefore, since the doctor adjusts them individually, you should use the medicine according to his instructions.
What speaks against an application?
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
Which age group should be considered?
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age: The medicine must not be used.
What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: consult your doctor or pharmacist. He will examine your particular starting position and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.
What adverse effects may occur?
Only side effects that have only occurred in exceptional cases so far are described for the drug.
If you notice any discomfort or changes during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
For the information at this point, side effects are primarily taken into account that occur in at least one in 1,000 patients treated.
Storage
The medicinal product must be stored away from heat.
What should you consider?
- Be careful if you are allergic to dyes (e.g. quinoline yellow with the E number E 104)!
- Beware of intolerance to lactose. If you have to follow a diabetic diet, you should consider the sugar content.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
How does the ingredient of the medicine work?
The active ingredient protects the nerves of the arms and especially the legs from the damaging effects of diabetes. Two mechanisms come into play for this: On the one hand, the substance ensures that the blood supply to the nerves is not impeded by breakdown products that are produced when the sugar content in the blood is too high. In order to achieve this, the active ingredient reduces the formation of these products. On the other hand, it intercepts nerve-damaging substances that arise due to an insufficient blood supply and the associated oxygen supply.
