For allergies, itching, chickenpox, allergic rhinitis, hives and insect bites.

The drops contain an active ingredient that blocks histamine in the body, which, when foreign substances penetrate the skin, triggers allergic skin reactions such as swelling, itching and redness. So these symptoms are reduced.

Due to the easy dosing and the fact that it contains no alcohol, Fenistil drops can be used from the first year of life.

Application:

1-8 year olds take 10-15 drops 3 times a day, from the age of 9 20 drops. Adults take 20-40 drops 3 times a day.

overdose?
There can be a variety of overdose symptoms, the first signs are headaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.

Forgot to take?
Continue taking it as normal (i.e. not double the amount) at the next prescribed time.

• The drops contain dimetindene maleate. The preparation belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. They are used to relieve the symptoms of allergies such as skin rashes, itching, hay fever or other forms of allergic rhinitis. The drops inhibit the action of histamine. Histamine is a substance that the body releases during an allergic reaction. It relieves the itching and irritation caused by the rash, reduces swelling and relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose and itchy, watery eyes.

dosage:

  • For patients prone to drowsiness, it is recommended to take 40 drops at bedtime and 20 drops in the morning.
  • Children from 1 to 11 years
    • The recommended daily dose is 2 drops per kg of body weight divided into 3 doses.
    • Body weight (bw) times 2, then divided by 3 equals the number of drops to be taken 3 times a day (2xbw/3).

• Duration of treatment
  • Do not take the drops for more than 14 days without consulting your doctor.

• If you take more than you should
  • In the event of an overdose, please inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately so that he can decide on the degree of severity and any further measures that may be necessary.
• If you forget to take a dose
  • Do not double the amount to make up for a forgotten dose, but continue as directed in the dosage instructions.
• If you stop taking it
  • If you interrupt the treatment or end the application prematurely, you must reckon with the fact that the desired effect will not set in or that the clinical picture will deteriorate again.

• Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
• Stop taking it and see a doctor straight away if you notice any of the following symptoms, which could be signs of an allergic reaction:
  • shortness of breath or difficulty swallowing
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
  • severe itching with skin rash, muscle cramps
    • These side effects are very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people).
• Other side effects that may occur are usually mild and temporary.
• The more common side effects occur especially at the beginning of treatment.
• Very common side effect (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
  • fatigue
• Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
  • sleepiness
  • nervousness
• Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
  • excitement
  • headache, dizziness
  • Gastrointestinal complaints, nausea, dry mouth, dry throat

• Taking together with other medicines
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or might take/use any other medicines.
  • The drops should only be taken after consulting your doctor if you are taking/using the following medicines:
    • Antidepressants (tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors)
    • Anticholinergics such as drugs for asthma or bronchospasm, stomach or abdominal cramps, drugs that dilate the pupils (mydriatics), drugs for urge incontinence and overactive bladder (urological antispasmodics)
    • Drugs that have a depressant effect on the central nervous system (sedatives), anxiolytics (anxiolytics) or sleeping pills (hypnotics, neuroleptics)
    • Medicines to treat epilepsy (anticonvulsants)
    • strong, centrally acting painkillers (opioid analgesics)
    • antihistamines (medicines used to treat cough, cold or allergies)
    • Medicines to stop you feeling sick and being sick (antiemetics)
    • procarbazine (medicine used to treat cancer)
    • scopolamine (medicine for travel sickness)
    • alcohol
  • Concomitant use of tricyclic antidepressants or anticholinergics may increase the risk of worsening glaucoma or urinary retention. In addition, concomitant use of tricyclic antidepressants in patients at risk of glaucoma could trigger a seizure.
• Consumed with alcohol
  • The drops, like many antihistamines, can increase the effects of alcohol.
  • Alcohol can increase the sedative effect of the drug.

Contraindications

• The drug must not be taken
  • if you are allergic to dimetindene maleate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • Infants and children under the age of 1 year should not take the medicine.

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if any of the following apply to you:
    • glaucoma (glaucoma)

Which age group should be considered?
- Babies under the age of 1 year: the medicine must not be used.
- Children under 6 years: In this age group, the drug should only be used for certain indications. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist, if you have questions regarding this topic.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: According to current knowledge, it is not recommended to use it. You may be to consider a weaning.

If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.

What should you consider?
