Who is affected by constipation?

Constipation is not uncommon. Around 13% of the population suffer at least occasionally from constipation or hard stools.

Constipation has different causes. An incorrect and low-fiber diet, insufficient fluid intake, stress or too little exercise can lead to constipation and harden the stool.

Constipation during pregnancy and lactation

Around a third of pregnant women are affected by constipation. The increasing waist circumference, the production of pregnancy hormones and the frequently taken iron supplements can promote constipation during pregnancy.

Likewise, constipation can also occur during breastfeeding. Reasons can also be a hormonal change after birth or changed living conditions. The daily routine is geared towards the baby, especially at the beginning of the breastfeeding period, and one’s own needs, such as going to the toilet, are often “put aside”.

Constipation in Babies & Children

In babies, switching from breast to bottle milk and switching to complementary food or porridge can lead to constipation and hard stools. In small children, the digestion can be disturbed by a changed daily routine and thus constipation can be promoted. The transition from diaper to potty is also a time when constipation can occur.

In older children, stress, hectic activity, lack of sleep or a new environment (e.g. when travelling) can trigger constipation.

constipation when traveling

Constipation when traveling - often associated with abdominal pain and a bloated feeling - can spoil the holiday mood. Triggers are stress before the start of the holiday, a changed daily routine, unfamiliar foods and spices, but also the discomfort in front of strange toilets and thus "holding" the chair. Therefore, a laxative should not be missing in the first-aid kit.

constipation in old age

The likelihood of suffering from constipation increases with age. As we age, our metabolism changes and digestion slows down, which promotes constipation. In addition, hormonal fluctuations, for example during the menopause, can promote constipation.

How Microlax works in constipation

Microlax is a mini enema that is applied rectally and acts locally in the rectum on the hardened stool. This is usually softened in just 5-20 minutes and can be excreted quickly and predictably. This takes place in a single bowel movement and usually without the risk of further uncontrolled bowel movements.

In contrast to oral laxatives, Microlax does not have to pass through the entire gastrointestinal tract and therefore relieves significantly faster. Practical if you want to continue with your everyday life as usual and also when travelling.

Thanks to its local effect, Microlax has hardly any side effects and is also very well tolerated by pregnant women, babies and those who are breastfeeding. Microlax - a product for the whole family.

Application

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

  • for adults and children if required 1 mini enema,
  • half a mini enema for babies and toddlers under the age of 3 years.

A dosing unit (1 mini enema or half a mini enema) is usually sufficient. Microlax is a disposable enema for use in the rectum (rectal use). It should be applied 5 to 20 minutes before the desired effect. If only part of the enema content is used, the remaining rectal solution should be discarded. In infants and small children under the age of 3 years, the tube neck may only be inserted halfway (marking on the tube neck). Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Microlax is too strong or too weak. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Type of application?
Enter the enema in the intestine. Empty your bowels as much as possible beforehand. When using half an enema, squeeze out half of the contents beforehand.

Duration of use?
The drug is used once.

overdose?
There are no known overdose symptoms. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

In general, pay attention to a conscientious dosage, especially for babies, small children and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.

A dosage prescribed by the doctor may deviate from the information on the package leaflet. Therefore, since the doctor adjusts them individually, you should use the medicine according to his instructions.

dosage

group of people single dose total dose time

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: According to current knowledge, the medicine has no harmful effects on the development of your child or the birth.
- Breast-feeding: According to current knowledge, there are no indications that the drug should not be used during breast-feeding.

If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.

What adverse effects may occur?

Only side effects that have only occurred in exceptional cases so far are described for the drug.

If you notice any discomfort or changes during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
