Allergy: what to do if the skin is itchy and flaky?
Allergic skin reacts to factors that are usually well tolerated. Most allergic skin comes from a predisposition and is inherited. What triggers it has specific influences. However, with reassurance and daily protection, symptoms can be managed.
If the skin is itchy, flaky, inflamed, tense and easily irritated, it is usually because the skin's barrier function is disturbed. The permeable skin allows irritating substances to penetrate more easily.
What is the skin allergic to?
Sensitive reactions can be due to heating air, solar radiation, cold, air pollutants, poor diet, not enough fluids, cigarette smoke, stress, medication, overtiredness or ingredients in skin care and cosmetics and dyes in textiles. If you already have allergies such as hay fever or similar. are present, the risk for sensitive and allergic skin increases.
During the day, the skin is mainly concerned with maintaining the skin barrier function, which protects the skin from the penetration of harmful influences. The regeneration and renewal program (cell renewal) of the skin takes place at night. Hypersensitive, allergic skin has a damaged skin barrier and is then no longer able to maintain its protective function. Accordingly, allergic skin is even more exposed to external influences and toxins accumulate.
The high number of toxins accumulated during the day cannot be completely eliminated at night. The allergic skin is overwhelmed with the processes mentioned and cannot fully recover at night. The consequences are skin reactions such as tingling, feelings of tightness and itching.
In order to alleviate these effects and strengthen the skin barrier, a particularly gentle cleansing and care is required.
