Relieve muscular back pain.
Therapeutic deep heat for back pain
ThermaCare heat packs relieve acute pain in the muscles, joints or tissues of the lower back. The natural but very effective effect is achieved through a combination of deep heat (therapeutic 40°C) and long-term heat (for at least 8 hours).
During use, the thin ThermaCare back wraps can be worn comfortably and discreetly under clothing, thus supporting mobility in everyday life.

When do I use ThermaCare® back heat packs?
Apply the ThermaCare® heat pack early! Even the first signs of back pain or tension should be treated quickly. Otherwise you risk that the pain will have a lasting impact on your everyday life.
We recommend the use of ThermaCare® back wraps especially for muscle pain caused by
- muscle tension
- Overexertion and subsiding strains.
The heat packs are suitable for use in chronic and occasional pain. However, ThermaCare® heat packs should not be used on diseased, injured or damaged skin, on bruises and swellings or on areas of the body that do not feel hot.
How does ThermaCare® work?
ThermaCare® heat pads and envelopes consist of a skin-friendly fleece in which patented heat cells are embedded. These heat cells contain a mixture of iron granules, activated carbon, salt and water. After opening the airtight packaging, contact with the oxygen in the air triggers an oxidation process: the heat cells heat themselves up. Thanks to this function, they reach a temperature of around 40 °C within 30 minutes, which lasts for a period of 8 to 12 hours (depending on the product) is maintained constantly.
Instructions for use:
Just before use, open the packaging and remove the ThermaCare® heat pack.
Place it with the darker, softer side on the affected back area and close the Velcro.
The heating phase is approx. 30 minutes, after which the treatment temperature of approx. 40 °C is reached and is kept constant for up to 8 hours.
- The envelope must never be heated in the microwave, in the oven or in any other way - risk of fire!
- Up to the age of 55 you can also wear ThermaCare® heat packs at night. We suggest using ThermaCare® heat packs during the day to become familiar with heat delivery before deciding to use them while you sleep. Alternatively, we recommend wearing a thin piece of clothing underneath the heat wrap if you are unsure how your body is reacting to the heat.
Medical studies have shown that you wake up with noticeably less pain and far more mobility after using ThermaCare® lower back heat packs at night. The risk of burns increases with age, so from the age of 55 ThermaCare® should be worn over thin clothing and not used while sleeping.
- Medical advice should be sought before using ThermaCare® back heat packs during pregnancy.
- If you have diabetes, poor circulation, heart disease, or rheumatoid arthritis and are planning to use ThermaCare® heat packs, please seek medical advice first.
- Please do not wet or wash the ThermaCare® heat pack, this will render the heat cells ineffective - normal body sweat does not affect the function. Heavy sweating, for example through sport, can loosen the adhesive on the heat patches.
How long can I use ThermaCare® heat pads?
ThermaCare® Warming Pads and Wraps should ideally be used once per pad for 8 to 12 hours depending on the product. For effective treatment and functionality, you should leave ThermaCare® heat patches on your skin continuously for at least three hours.
If the product is worn for more than 8 or 12 hours, the risk of skin irritation or skin burns increases. For longer-term relief from muscle pain or tension (a few days beyond application), use ThermaCare® for at least two to three days, but never more than seven days in a row.
If you are under the age of 55, you can use ThermaCare® while you sleep. Older people should refrain from using it while they sleep, as the skin becomes thinner with age and therefore more susceptible to damage from heat or cold.
If the symptoms do not improve or even worsen after 7 days, please seek medical advice to clarify the cause of the pain and to find alternative treatment options.
How often can I use a ThermaCare® pad?
Due to the technology used, each heat pad can only be used once. ThermaCare® works through oxidation: After opening the airtight packaging, the ingredients react with the oxygen in the air and heat up by themselves. If the oxidation has ended after 8 to 12 hours (depending on the product), the product cannot and should not be reactivated be properly disposed of with household waste.
Please do not under any circumstances heat ThermaCare® products in the microwave or oven as the heating pad could catch fire!
Study results:
The effectiveness of ThermaCare® has been proven in numerous studies. For example, it has been shown that continuous heat therapy at low temperatures of around 40 °C is more effective than ibuprofen and paracetamol in the treatment of acute, non-specific back pain. Another study shows that ThermaCare® heat packs for the back, in contrast to the tested heat patches from other manufacturers, still heat the tissue at a depth of 2 cm. You can find out more about the structure and results of this and other studies in our study folder.
