Nausea, vomiting, thirst or constipation. In the long term, this can lead to calcium deposits in vessels and organs. If symptoms occur, please contact your doctor immediately.

  • If you forget to take a dose

    • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

  • Other side effects:

    • Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)

      • excessively high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia)

      • excessive calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria)

    • Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)

      • hypersensitivity, such as B. hives, rash, itching

      • Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, vomiting

    • Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data)

      • Milk Alkaline Syndrome

    • In the first few months of calcium administration, there is increased calcium excretion in the urine, which can promote stone formation.

    • In the case of renal insufficiency and long-term use, an increase in the calcium concentration in the blood (hypercalcaemia), increased excretion of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria) and hypoacidity of the blood (metabolic alkalosis) can occur.

    • Other possible side effects

  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.

interactions

  • Taking together with other medicines

    • Please note that dairy products have a high calcium content. A liter of milk can contain up to 1,200 mg of calcium. This should be taken into account when taking calcium.

    • The intake of large amounts of milk and milk products together with calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) must be avoided as this can lead to a serious illness (milk-alkaline syndrome).

    • Interactions can also occur with foods that contain oxalic acid, phytic acid or phosphates such as: B. spinach, rhubarb, grain products. When ingesting foods rich in oxalic acid or phytic acid, the drug should be taken at least 2 hours later.

    • if you have increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria).

    • with prolonged immobilization of limbs (immobilization).

    • if you have certain kidney problems, including: kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), calcium deposits in the kidney tissue (nephrocalcinosis).

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

patient notes

  • Warnings and Precautions

    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine

      • if you suffer from kidney disease. You should only use this preparation after consulting your doctor. This applies in particular if you are taking preparations containing aluminium.

      • if you have a reduced phosphate concentration in the blood (hypophosphataemia).

    • Do not take vitamin D supplements with this medicine without medical advice.

    • Also ask your doctor for advice if there is a family history of calcium containing kidney stones or if you have a history of kidney stones.

    • Calcium intake increases the excretion of calcium in the urine. In the first few months after starting intake, this also increases the tendency to precipitate calcium salts and, under certain circumstances, to form stones in the kidneys and urinary bladder. This can be avoided by drinking plenty of fluids.

    • In the case of renal insufficiency and hypophosphatemia, calcium should only be used with ongoing monitoring of the calcium and phosphate concentrations in the blood and urine.

    • There is a risk of hypercalcaemia during therapy with calcium, especially if therapy is also administered with vitamin D, certain diuretics (thiazide-type diuretics) and/or medicinal products containing calcium, or if additional food (supplements) (such as milk) are taken , which can result in renal dysfunction. This risk also exists if you are pregnant and taking calcium or if you have impaired kidney function. In such patients, serum calcium levels and renal function should be monitored.

    • Calcium and alkali intake from other sources (food, fortified foods or other drugs) should be considered when taking the supplement. When high doses of calcium are taken with alkaline agents (such as carbonates), milk-alkaline syndrome (Burnett's syndrome) with increased blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia), low acidity of the blood (metabolic alkalosis), kidney failure and soft tissue calcification can result to lead. When high doses are administered, serum and urinary calcium levels should be monitored.

  • Ability to drive and use machines

    • Calcium intake has no effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
