The hawthorn is a native shrub whose leaves and flowers have been used for generations to support the heart and circulatory system. The bark is gray and smooth, cracked to scaly on older plants. Its wood is exceptionally hard and heavy. The flowers sprout in May and June - they are mostly white, but occasionally pink to red.
