Dona® tablets Dona® powder for making a solution

Osteoarthritis and what you can do about it
If the knee initially feels stiff after a break and hurts when you move it or later when you are at rest, then osteoarthritis can be the cause. Osteoarthritis of the knee is often regarded as normal, age-related wear and tear.

Nevertheless, excessive and incorrect loads and above all being overweight are often the triggers for wear and tear on the knee joint. Around 75 percent of all people over the age of 50 show signs of arthrosis in the knee. This refers to changes in the joint that cause the bone surface to become harder and rougher after cartilage loss due to overloading or incorrect loading.

This irritates tendons and ligaments, causing pain. Osteoarthritis develops in different ways – but in any case it can significantly limit mobility and quality of life.

Unfortunately, osteoarthritis cannot be cured. But at an early stage, further deterioration can be effectively counteracted with DONA®: The mobility of the knee joints can be maintained and the pain alleviated by taking DONA® regularly.

The active ingredient crystalline glucosamine hemisulfate belongs to the group of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory anti-inflammatory drugs) and anti-rheumatic (anti-rheumatic) drugs and is particularly stable in its formulation.

By enriching the glucosamine that occurs naturally in the body, further loss of cartilage can be reduced and the regeneration of the cartilage tissue can be promoted. Since the active ingredient is only rarely ingested through food, glucosamine hemisulfate is a useful addition to the daily diet. The effectiveness and tolerability have also been confirmed in long-term studies.

Glucosamine hemisulfate is available in tablet form, but also as a powder to make up a solution.

Recommendation for use:
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, adults take 1500 mg DONA® daily. One sachet of DONA® 1500 mg powder is dissolved in a glass of liquid and drunk with a meal. DONA® tablets can be taken with a glass of liquid at mealtimes, divided into several individual doses a day. However, if the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 2-3 months, a doctor should be consulted.

Don't burden yourself?
The earlier recommendations to protect the knee joints when they are in pain have long been outdated: Well-developed muscles stabilize and protect the joints. In addition, regular exercise ensures that the joint cartilage is supplied with nutrients. Therefore, on the one hand, special exercises that the physiotherapist can suggest are crucial for the positive development of the knee problems. On the other hand, knee-friendly endurance sports (such as Nordic walking or cycling) - but also mindful movement patterns (eg Tai Chi, Chi Gong) can have a positive effect on the joints. Also preventive. DONA® can support the damaged cartilage with glucosamine hemisulphate and thus delay the course of osteoarthritis of the knee and permanently alleviate the symptoms caused by osteoarthritis.

What else you can do
If you want to do something good for your knees, you should watch your weight. One of the main risk factors for osteoarthritis is obesity. A look at the scale shows whether the weight needs to be optimized. Exercise – and especially diet – can give the body positive impulses. A wholesome, low-fat and low-calorie diet that is rich in vitamins and fiber helps to keep the pounds in check. Since natural glucosamine suppliers (foods with a high proportion of cartilage or connective tissue) are very rarely on the menu today, the long-term intake of DONA® as tablets or in the form of powder to prepare a solution can have a decisive impact on glucosamine absorption and thus also on knee problems improve.

Athletes have "knees" too
Younger and sporty people are also affected by knee pain. The reason here is more the wrong shoes, a malposition (e.g. knock knees) or excessive training zeal. This can lead to osteoarthritis, tendon irritation and pain. If the pain occurs behind the kneecap when walking down stairs, the tendons that attach to the kneecap are usually overloaded. The so-called runner's knee is often responsible for pain on the outside of the knee (overstressing of an external tendon plate). There are similar reasons for pain on the inside of the knee. Pain in the hollow of the knee is rather rare. This is usually due to a meniscus injury. If knee pain persists for a long time, a specialist should be consulted to confirm the diagnosis. He can best decide

Frequently asked questions & answers

How long does the drug DONA® keep?
For all dosage forms, the expiry date refers to the last day of that month. After that, the drug should no longer be taken.

When is the pain-relieving effect of DONA® noticeable?
Although DONA® works much earlier, the pain-relieving effect after taking DONA® can only be felt after 4 to 6 weeks.

Therefore, DONA® should be used as a long-term therapy and, if necessary, supplemented with antirheumatic drugs (NSAIDs) for acute pain until the pain-relieving effect of DONA® occurs.

Is DONA® also suitable for children and adolescents?
Due to the lack of data on safety and effectiveness, DONA® preparations should not be taken in powder or tablet form by children and adolescents under the age of 18.

Is it safe to take DONA® during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Dona® preparations should not be taken during pregnancy. Taking glucosamine hemisulfate while breastfeeding is also not recommended.
