QUICK CALM FOR HORRIBLE COUGH
When the acute symptoms of a cold are over, one hopes to have gotten over it. The runny nose becomes dry again and when you cough you no longer produce mucus. Nevertheless, the coughing continues and becomes excruciating. It irritates the sensitive mucous membranes in the bronchi until they become inflamed. A vicious cycle of irritation and coughing follows, which is exhausting during the day and leaves you unable to rest, especially at night.
STILL THE TICKET - GIVE CALM The stimulus to cough arises in the airways and is actually a life-sustaining reflex. It gets rid of things that are bothersome in the trachea and bronchi - be it something that has been swallowed incorrectly or mucus that has to be evacuated from the lungs and is laden with bacteria. The stimulus is processed at a very specific point in the brain, the cough center. From a certain intensity of the stimulus, this part of the brain triggers the coughing impulse. In the context of a cold, this happens at the slightest stimulus. This leads to constant coughing, although it is actually not necessary. Dextromethorphan, the world's best-researched cough-suppressing active ingredient in Silomat® DMP lemon-flavoured lozenges, reduces the perception of the urge to cough.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:
Silomat® DMP lemon-flavored lozenges should only be used for dry coughs without mucus formation. Children from the age of 6 can take one Silomat® DMP lemon-flavoured lozenge every 4-6 hours, but no more than 6 a day. Adolescents 12 years and older and adults can take 1-3 lozenges every 4-6 hours, but no more than 12 a day. Then let the lozenges slowly melt in your mouth.
COUGHING IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME
Cough is used to clean the respiratory tract. If mucus is found, that's a good sign. Because the mucus contains harmful bacteria, which the body rids itself of in this way. Such a cough should not be suppressed. Unlike the dry cough, where no sputum is found. This puts unnecessary strain on the airways.
A FEW TIPS AGAINST PITCHING COUGH
As long as you suffer from a dry cough, you should avoid drinking alcohol. It also dries out the mucous membranes in the throat, which intensifies the irritation. Dry heating air has the same effect - therefore humidifiers or inhalations can have a soothing effect
